Allan's natural muesli
Natural muesli is easy to make and way more delicious than store bought brands. It's also more economical. So what's not to like! These ingredients are what I like to add, but the great thing here is you can vary the flavours every time you make it. Add additional ingredients you like such as desiccated coconut, dried cranberries, chopped cashews, sliced dried apple or whatever you have at hand. An extra cup of dried fruit, seeds or nuts will not ruin the recipe. Make it your own!
1 kg (2 lb/10 cups) rolled oats
120 g (4 1/2 oz/ 3/4 cup) dried fruit, sliced (apricots, figs or dates)
120 g (4 1/2 oz / 3/4 cup) sultanas or raisins
140g (5 oz /1 cup) mix of pepitas and sunflower seeds
90 g (3 oz / 3/4 cup) nuts, chopped (almonds or hazelnuts)
Combine all ingredients. Divide into plastic containers with tight-fitting lids and store in a cool dark place. Will keep for 2–3 months.
Makes just over 1.5 kg.
